Antiseptic herbal tea wards off heart disease
5:33am 3/2/2011

As I mentioned in an earlier herbal tea article, the medicinal effects of herbal tea are far-reaching and very effective-even if many of the herbal constituents are unknown. However, herbalists believe that "whole plants treat whole people" so an isolated "silver bullet" found in a man-made pharmaceutical product is not on the agenda. After all, bullets still seem to cause a lot of destruction.

And the same holds true for some of modern medicine. Consider this and the fact that in certain instances, when tissues have been destroyed in the body or brain, there is NO possible way to recover your former self even with the mightiest herbs and man-made drugs. Waste not, want not.

In proper society, we brush our teeth to PREVENT tooth-decay and gum disease. However, the average citizen in the American metropolis does not clutter his life with preventative medicine for such common illnesses like diabetes and heart-disease, even though the consequences are much more severe than a crooked smile. Plus, emerging scientific (and real-world) data points to the fact that people with a high standard of oral hygiene generally have clean arteries and subsequently, fewer heart-attacks, strokes and lost eye sight due to diabetes.

We collectively must do a better job at preventing illnesses from arising in the first place. And the easiest, most cost-effective way for the average global citizen to experience a higher quality of life (and longevity) is to eat MUCH more plant-based foods. By getting the unique nutritional and phyto-chemical requirements of your own body fulfilled, you are less hungry, with less inflammation, a lower blood-pressure, a better insulin response to sugar, a sharper mind and a body that is much more insulated from the ills of the world.

Make no mistake: although we are not living in caves and creeping up on Woolly Mammoths but it is still a struggle to afford a comfortable lifestyle in this modern age-or even physically survive considering all the trappings of living in a "wealthy nation" where horribly unhealthy treats are everywhere. And with this said, the cheapest health care you can get is from a largely plant-based diet. There isn't anything wrong with a hamburger or some fajitas at a friend's house but the whole point is shifting the majority of your caloric intake into natural plant-based foods are complete and unprocessed.

Untouched.

Drop milk and dairy and replace that intake with more veggies and you will forget you had allergies, bad skin or drooping energy levels. By enjoying more nutrition, you will meet your physical needs, which ensure a strong mind and body, hedged against the threat of various illness, heart disease or cancer.

And here's a thought: sugar actually FEEDS cancer. In fact, when clinical studies are done on cancer the primary medium for cancer-cell growth is maltodextrin-sugar.

By avoiding excess animal fats (plant fats are great) and refined sugar you are drastically reducing the "gasoline" that would otherwise go on the cancerous "fire". This same fact holds just as true for heart-disease and diabetes. And with the dramatic reduction of calories that dropping most meats and dairy will do, you're going to have room for all the grains, veggies, fruits, nuts and hummus you ever wanted. Oh, and you'll still lose weight.

Consume more plants in 2011 (and beyond) and you're
                                           doctor will thank you.

In addition to eating more plants, one can try herbal teas containing such herbs as hibiscus, dandelion leaf, peppermint and Calendula flowers to act as a strong natural antiseptic tea for an advanced oral hygiene regimen. By consuming teas that are anti-septic, the entire mouth (gums, teeth, etc.) is being cleaned upon the entrance of a tasty herbal tea treat with a bit of cinnamon and honey. By having a truly clean mouth, you are reducing the possibility of getting gum-disease and ultimately heart-disease.

100 years ago, the United States of America was much leaner and relatively healthy considering the lack of medical advances at the time.

Reason?

They didn't have enough money to eat cheese and meat in every meal. And that's it. Weight gain is mathematical and richer foods cost more, hence the name (rich).

Toss the soda and boldly go as old-school as possible by sipping tea daily

Why is this important?

Because the more animal based products we eat as a society, leaves more plaque and residue in between the crevices of your gums and teeth. When you have gum-disease, the bacteria present actually gets into the blood-stream to help form arterial blockage (gum plaque=arterial plaque), according to a trove of recent studies. According to the study in the link, 75% of ALL Americans have gingivitis with 20-30% of American adults having severe forms of the oral disease. The correlation between this lack of oral hygiene and heart health is pretty apparent.

Again, by drinking more herbal teas, the simple act of cleaning your mouth with every warm sip of tea will only fortify your brushing and flossing routine.

And besides the other immense health benefits of eating more plants and consuming herbal teas daily, it never hurts to have a mouth so clean it's always kissably close.

Old man breath is never cool.

Until next time, train harder and consume smarter.
